John Daniel III (1669-1724)


He was born about September 16, 1669 in  York County, Virginia Colony and died before May 18, 1724 in Burton Parish, York, Virginia Colony. He was the son of John Daniel II (1649-1688) and Mary Williams.
John married probably Ann Bates, born 1688 in Skimano, York, Virginia Colony, daughter of John Bates and Elizabeth Whitney Daniel, about 1700 in York, Virginia Colony.

They had the following children:
  • *John VI (1702-1762) , was born about 1702 in Hanover County, Virginia Colony and died about 1762 in Granville County, North Carolina Colony. He married Anne Williams, born about 1708 in Hanover County, Virginia Colony and died about 1761 in Granville County, North Carolina Colony, about 1725/28 in Virginia Colony.
    • They had the following children:
      • Sarah, Elizabeth, James, Martha, John Williams (1734-1809) V
  • Williams, was born about 1703 in Virginia and died about 1775 in Virginia. He married Margaret Unknown.
  • Sarah, was born about 1705 
  • James, was born about 1708 in Virginia and died about 1763 in Virginia. He married Jean Kelso about 1744 in Virginia. 
  • Hannah, was born about 1712


WILL OF JOHN DANIEL of YORK COUNTY, VA
Made: 12 November 1722, proved: 18 May 1724 - The following will was transcribed from Heinemann.

In the name of God Amen, I, John Daniel, of the Parish of Bruton of the County of York am week in body but of perfect sense and memory do make this my last will and testament bequeathing my Soul to Almighty God that gave it and my body to be decently buried at the direction of my _______________ Exet. Herein named and as for my temporal estate that it hath pleased God to bless me with I give and bequeath as followeth after my just debts and funeral charges are paid.IMPRINIS. I give and bequeath unto my eldest son John Daniel, the one half of that tract of land lying in Hanover County that I lately bought of John Bryant where he is now lately seated or this plantation in York County whereon I now live, which of of them he shall make choice of to him and his heirs forever, and the remainder part, after he hath made his choice, whether it be that in Hanover County or this plantation in York County, I give unto my son Williams Daniel and to him and his heirs forever.ITEM. I give and bequeath to my son James Daniel the other half of that tract of land in Hanover County lately bought, as aforesaid, to him and his heirs forever.ITEM. I give and bequeath to my loving son John Daniel my negro man named Tom with the bed and all other necessaries he carried up with him to keep house in Hanover County will all my (Musket guns?) to him and his heirs forever.ITEM. I give and bequeath to my son James Daniel one Negro woman named Jenny and her increase to him and his heirs forever and my desire is that my son James be bound to a trade that he shall choose by my Exet hereafter named.ITEM. I give and bequeath unto my son Williams Daniel one negro by name Will and to him and his heirs forever.ITEM. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Sarah Barksdale my negro woman named Moll and her increase to her and the heirs of her body lawfull begotten and that forever.ITEM. I give and bequeath unto Hannah Daniel one negro boy named Tom to her and her heirs and that forever.My will and pleasure is that after my funeral charges and just debts paid and legacy taken out that fifty shillings paid to my loving sister Elizabeth Crutchfield in goods out _____ that the remainderof my estate be equally divided after appraided between my four children: John, James, Williams and Hannah Daniel.AND I do apoint my loving friend James Bates and my son John Daniel Extrs of this my last will and testament revoking all other heretofore made by me.
